As my first furniture building project, I built this 46" X 72" drop leaf dining table using 100+ year old cherry wood salvaged from the demolition of the Baltimore grain exchange building in the 1960's. This was my first time making mortise and tendon joints and I used the Mortise Pal for all eight mortises on this table. The device worked flawlessly so that even a novice like me achieved perfect joints the first time.

Loosely inspired from Federal Style furniture, this solid walnut coffee table was built to display keepsakes of family vacations. The top features an inlay strip that goes around the perimeter. It was installed so the arrowhead in the pattern direct the eye to the mitered corners, which were assembled using dowels. The dowel holes were milled with the help of my Mortise Pal /quipped with a dowel template. The drawers open from either sides and are slightly shorter than the width of the table so they appear recessed into the apron. The drawer fronts have bookmatch grain, which I built by slicing 1/8" thick bookmatch veneer pieces and gluing them to 3/4" thick solid walnut pieces. The drawer bottom are frame and panel constructions. The bottom of the apron is wrapped with a cock bead housed in a rabbet. The apron is joined to the legs with 3/8" wide floating mortise and tenon joints milled with my Mortise Pal. The 1 1/2" square legs are tapered on all four sides and have a 3/4" wide inlay strip above the taper. It is 52" long x 26" wide x 15" high. Finished with polymerized tung oil.

Adapted from Fine Woodworking plans for a Prairie Settee, I built this custom chair for my wife. The project features exclusive mortise and tenon joinery utilizing the Mortise Pal. Worked great! Thanks.

This is a simple black walnut and maple entryway seat sized to fit in the available space. All solid wood construction except for the seat bottom, which is walnut veneer plywood. It will eventually be covered by a cushion the customer will make herself. Rails and legs are connected using 3/8" thick floating tenon joinery cut with the help of my new Mortise Pal. All the pieces in the stretcher assembly (1" wide x 5/8" thick pieces) are connected using 3/8" dowels. The dowel holes were cut using the Mortise Pal with the dowelling template. The maple end caps on the legs are 1/4" thick, cut from stock that had straight grain and glued so the grain runs diagonally (or towards the center of the seat if you wish) on all four corners. Overall dimensions are 18" high x 22" wide x 14" deep. Finish is polymerized tung oil.
